I Love That I Suck

Today’s Monday Listicles’ topic is 10 THINGS THAT I AM RUBBISH AT. I am totally using Stasha’s words there, because I never say rubbish. However, I’m starting to think I might put it into my verbal rotation. It really is a perfectly good word that is tragically underused by us American folk.

Okay, okay, I know I’m stalling so here you go…

10 THINGS THAT I AM RUBBISH AT

1. Cooking. That’s not to say I don’t cook, I just merely do it in a way that feeds people. While I adore food, and have been chastised on numerous occasions for spending far too much on a single dining out experience, I just don’t enjoy spending time in the kitchen. Unless of course, I’m drinking wine while someone else is doing the cooking.

2. Driving. I am a terrible driver. I get lost going places I’ve been to multiple times. I run over curbs while turning corners and I yell at other drivers, which only serves to make most of my passengers nervous. I pay attention and haven’t been in any at-fault accidents, but I think it’s mostly because I am a lucky, terrible driver.

3. Painting my nails. Fingers or toes, it doesn’t matter. I can’t do it. They end up bubbly and messy and just trashy looking. My salon loves me for this.

4. Patience. Everyone who knows me IRL is nodding their heads.

5. Drawing. If you want stick figures or that one picture of a house with a picket fence and a few windows, then I’m your gal. If you want actual art, find someone else.

6. Competitiveness. I can be possessive and a bit controlling, but I’m not competitive. I enjoy playing games just to play and don’t mind if someone else wins.

7. Trendsetting. I have always struggled with knowing what’s “in” and what’s lame. I am a t-shirt and jeans wearing woman and have always had trouble keeping up with the latest fashion trends no matter how much Project Runway I watch.

8. Diets. I like food. I like wine. I do not like counting calories or withholding. This probably explains the slight paunch around my midsection that no amount of running seems to diminish.

9. Spontaneity. The upside to this is that I’m really good at planning!

10. Keeping my mouth shut. My parents always warned me that my inability to keep my thoughts and/or opinions to myself would be what got me in the most trouble throughout my life and they’ve been right. I have found a way to censor myself in certain circumstances, but still feel compelled at times to mouth off anyway. I say it’s because I’m honest but it’s really because I think I’m always right.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my flaws. If you didn’t participate this week, I hope you leave me one of yours in the comments. A little quid pro quo, if you know what I mean!

Right there with you on #1, #4, and #10. Like you, I have learned to censor somewhat, and that there are certain situations where it’s best to say nothing, but other times…. I can’t help myself!

I definitely think that censoring oneself is something that comes with age. I’m so much better at staying out of trouble than I was ten years ago!

Great list! I am terrible at painting my nails as well, wish I would have remembered that one for my list. The dieting I can totally relate to as well. My love of cupcakes is a deep and everlasting one. Mmm, cupcakes…. Thanks for sharing your rubbish list 🙂

Nail painting really is the worst. Does anyone actually want to do it themselves? Thanks for stopping by. I enjoyed your list as well!

I love you for no. 10.
Pretty sure you do not have to concern yourself with no. 8 (diets) OR no. 7 (trendsetting) – jeans and t-shirts are timeless, right? (-:

I think No. 10 is a big one for most of us bloggy types, and I’m basically banking on the fact that as long as I’m not wearing “mom jeans,” my style is timeless. 🙂

You don’t need to draw, your art comes from a lens and it’s spectacular.

I totally had to own the, “I think I’m always right” part because it’s the real reason behind why I can’t keep my mouth shut!

I can paint my left hand nails decent enough, but polish on only one hand isn’t trendy right now. Maybe I can change that…;) To answer your question, there really are people that do it themselves??? God bless ’em!

I have heard of people who paint there own nails, I’ve yet to see them roaming around though. I can’t even do my toes, that’s how uncoordinated I am!

While I am a chronic complainer about people who can’t drive, I appreciate someone who can admit it! Because that probably means you’re not as horrible as you think! And I wish I wasn’t so good at keeping my mouth shut, it would probably keep me from spending so much time seething!

That’s funny, I actually asked my lady the other day and she said it has to do with keeping her pinky straight. Not too easy to do if you’re only using one hand.
